Aufnahme in den Expert*innenpool von d-Arts

Ich bin in den Expert*innenpool von D-Arts – Projektbüro für Diversität aufgenommen worden. D-Arts steht für konsequente, machtkritische Kulturarbeit an der Schnittstelle von Kunst, Film und institutioneller Praxis in Österreich.

Der Aufnahme gingen konkrete Kooperationen voraus:
Ich habe am 6. November 2025 in Wien den Workshop „Antidiskriminierung im Film: Praxis-Workshop für Betroffene & Verbündete“ durchgeführt, der strukturelle Diskriminierung im Filmbereich in den Fokus stellt und mit Filmbeispielen, Rollenspielen und praxisnahen Interventionen arbeitet (in Kooperation mit Drehübung Wien).

Zudem habe ich am 20. und 21. März 2025 in Wien ein zweitägiges Training zu „Diversität, Diskriminierung und Antidiskriminierung im Film- und Förderbereich“ für die Projektkommission 2024–2026 des Österreichischen Filminstituts geleitet. Inhalte waren u. a. strukturelle Diskriminierung im Film- und Förderwesen, künstlerische Freiheit sowie diskriminierungskritische Analyse von Projektanträgen.

Die Aufnahme in den Expert*innenpool macht meine Arbeit an strukturellen Fragen von Macht, Verantwortung und Gerechtigkeit im Film- und Kulturbereich sichtbar. Ich danke D-Arts für die Anerkennung!

film.macht.kritisch. Screenings - Launch Event: Bodies, Borders, Resistance

Join us for the launch of film.macht.kritisch. Screenings — a carefully curated feature and short film program dedicated to cinema that intervenes. The selection brings together bold, formally distinct works that confront dominant narratives and foreground marginalized perspectives. Across different geographies and aesthetic approaches, the films engage with questions of grief, resistance, identity, care, and creative survival.

This program is grounded in curatorial justice: political without simplification, intimate without exploitation, and unapologetically intersectional.

Featured Shorts:

Eid (12 min | Canada / Palestine | 2024 | Rame Ibrahim)
A restrained yet piercing reflection on mourning under occupation. The film traces how borders, bureaucracy, and structural violence shape the most intimate moments of grief in a Palestinian context.

Forest Echoes (19 min | Canada | 2024 | Eva Grant)
On the anniversary of a traumatic arrest, two Indigenous non-binary queer activists navigate memory, care, and love. The film weaves personal healing with ongoing struggles for Indigenous sovereignty and environmental justice in British Columbia.

Cow Heavy and Floral (15 min | USA | 2024 | Richa Rudola)
Through immersive split-screen compositions, the film offers a close portrait of Anamaria — a Latin American mother and writer negotiating creative desire, emotional labor, and social expectation.

Nightbirds (14 min | Philippines | 2024 | Maria Estela Paiso & Ashok Vish)
A visually inventive mythic narrative combining live action, animation, and mixed media. The story follows Ivy and a mythical bird, exploring longing, belief, and the pursuit of freedom beyond imposed limits.

Holy Curse (16 min | India | 2024 | Snigdha Kapoor)
Sharp, tender, and darkly humorous, this film follows a non-binary/trans child navigating family rituals, faith, and cultural contradiction across national and generational contexts.

🎧 Bonus: Pre-recorded Q&As with the filmmakers accompany the screenings, offering insight into artistic choices, ethical representation, and the political stakes of their work.

The films are presented in their original languages, partly with English subtitles.

Experience cinema that is decolonial, queer, feminist, and uncompromising — films that refuse neutrality and insist on responsibility: Formally inventive and socially attentive cinema.

Following up on Episode #9, which introduced the 6 Key Elements of Curatorial Justice, this episode moves from theory into action. We explore what it means to take curatorial responsibility seriously — centering context, authorship, ethical representation, and political clarity, rather than relying on supposedly “universal” or “neutral” perspectives.

To bring these ideas to life, I reflect on five international short films from the first film.macht.kritisch. Screenings:

These works illuminate how borders and burials, motherhood, myth and agency, care and Indigenous environmental resistance, non-binary/trans identities, and cultural specificity become sites of curatorial responsibility.

Special thanks to Egyptian filmmaker and producer Nada Riyadh for inspiring deeper exploration of curatorial justice in this series. This episode also includes a brief excerpt from a panel I already included in #9, “Unpacking Sovereignty and Curatorial Justice: The Filmmaker’s Perspective”, moderated by Rico Johnson-Sinclair (Cannes Docs – Marché du Film 2023, curated by DAE).

Vom 13. bis 22. Oktober werde ich moderieren bei OPEN EYES - Menschenrechtsfilme für die Schule, dem Schulfilmprojekt des Internationlen Nürnberger Filmfestivals der Menschenrechte in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Filmhaus Nürnberg. Das Programm verbindet auf innovative Weise kulturelle und politische Bildung. Herz der Open Eyes Schulvorstellungen sind die Filmgespräche mit Filmschaffenden oder Expert*innen zum Film. Dieses Jahr bieten wir zwei Termine pro Film mit anschließendem Gespräch an. Dieses Jahr im Programm: Flow, Im Prinzip Familie, Kein Land für Niemand, Die Möllner Briefe, Noch lange keine Lippizaner, Playtime, Sisterqueens und Souleymanes Geschichte. Tallgrass Film Festival 2025

Auch in diesem Jahr habe ich für das Tallgrass Film Festival, das vom 16. bis 19. Oktober 2025 in Wichita, Kansas/ USA stattfindet, das Kurzfilmprogramm „Narrative Shorts” kuratiert. Das Ergebnis sind vier prall gefüllte Programme: Dreams Can Come True Shorts, A Broken System Shorts, Freak Out Shorts und Losing You Shorts. Kurze Geschichten, viele davon aus der Perspektive marginalisierter Menschen, öffnen den Blick auf Leben, die im Kino selten Raum bekommen: eine Hundetrainerin, eine junge Schwarze Frau, die beim Verkauf ihres geliebten Vierbeiners von einem älteren weißen Käufer erst unterschätzt und dann sexuell belästigt wird; eine zarte Liebesgeschichte im ländlichen Indien zwischen einem verwundeten Rebellen, der im Dorf Unterschlupf findet, und einem jungen Mann, der eigentlich mit einer Frau verlobt ist; zwei Schwestern, die sich die Liebe zwar nicht, beim grotesk endenden Besuch bei ihrem narzisstischen Vater jedoch wenigstens sein Geld sichern; eine junge Frau aus einer Navajo-Bengali-Familie, die in Schwierigkeiten gerät, als sie mit je einer Tante beider Seiten gemeinsam kocht; zwei indigene, queere Aktivist*innen aus Kanada, die das fortwirkende Trauma eines Behördenangriffs während einer politischen Aktion zu verarbeiten versuchen – und viele mehr.
